How to get your home ready for interior painting

Painter loading a roller from a paint tray in a room with moving boxes

A little prep on your end before the painters arrive helps the day go smoothly and lets us get straight to work. Here's a short checklist.

A few days before

  • Settle on colors. Having final colors picked out keeps the schedule on track.
  • Move your furniture. Move furniture out of the room, or to the middle of it, away from the walls being painted.
  • Put away small items. Pack up valuables, fragile pieces, photos and decor from the rooms being painted.
  • Take down wall hangings. Remove art, mirrors and shelves you'd like to keep safe.

The day of

  • Clear a path. Make sure there's easy access to each room being painted.
  • Plan for pets. Keep pets in a separate room or out of the house while we work.
  • Point out problem spots. Let us know about cracks, stains or areas you'd like extra attention on.

After we finish

Fresh paint can feel dry to the touch quickly but takes longer to fully cure. Be gentle with newly painted walls for the first couple of weeks, and wait before scrubbing or hanging heavy items.
